Leaders with Springfield’s Better Business Bureau say there are many red flags you can look out for to help keep your money - and your personal information safe.

“Any legitimate company is not going to mind you taking a few moments to call their home office, to verify the identity of the person on your doorstep,” said Pamela Hernandez with Springfield’s Better Business Bureau.

A new HVAC scheme has hit neighborhoods across Springfield. Recently some people have noticed what appears to be an Aireserve worker going door to door.

According to customers the person is trying sell duct cleaning services at a “lower price”. Owner of Springfield’s Aireserve, Scott Jay, says none of their employees will ever go door to door to sell their services.

Jay says the company is working to relay the message to its customers, as they continue to investigate the scheme.

“Someone who is working for legitimate company is going to have a business card with their name, they’re going to have some sort of company ID, I’m probably going to have a vehicle that has the company information on it. So look for all of those things if someone is coming around door to door.”

Hernadez with the Better Business Bureau says some cities around the Ozarks may require a door-to-door salesman to have a peddler’s license. She says if you’re not sure, call your city’s clerk or office to find out.
